Dutch Colonial Living and Dining Room

This project was close to home—my own living and dining room in a Dutch Colonial house, designed to reflect both tradition and personality. The goal was to create a space that felt timeless, warm, and durable enough for real family life with two teenagers. The design began with a pair of antique elephant statues, which inspired a fabric featuring elegant scenes of elephants in ancient India. This print became the focal point for signature cushions and served as the foundation for the color palette throughout both rooms.

In the living room, I reupholstered antique furniture in durable, family-friendly fabrics that preserved the character of the pieces while making them suitable for everyday use. Oriental rugs were added to both the living and dining rooms to anchor the spaces, accent the color palette, and bring warmth and dimension underfoot. Traditional elements such as rich wood tones and classic drapery helped ground the space in its architectural history, while bold, modern artwork added a fresh twist—perfectly balancing old and new.

The dining room continues this blend of elegance and comfort, anchored by a classic Grange dining table, chairs, and buffet. A crystal chandelier was chosen as the room’s focal point, adding just the right touch of refinement. The custom drapery fabric carries through from the living room, ensuring a cohesive, connected flow
